Our objective is to bring therapeutics to HD patients as quickly as possible. To do that requires sharing research results among HD investigators. It also requires a balance between facilitating scientific innovation and encouraging industrial investment in HD drug development (by creating intellectual property).
These principles guide the terms of High Q and CHDI, Inc. research contracts:
Results should be made available to other HD investigators as quickly as possible while respecting the investigator’s interest in publication.
Inventions should be patented only if doing so would enhance the timeliness and availability of HD therapeutic products.
Patents should not be asserted against any person practicing the inventions for the purpose of HD research.
The primary reason for commercializing patents in the HD field is to make therapeutic products available to HD patients on a fair and timely basis.
